Janet Akman

Janet Akman, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland. With more than 20 years of experience working with adults and couples, her specialties include helping clients with depression, anxiety, self esteem, life transitions, separation and divorce, communication difficulties, relationship issues, and emotional abuse. Janet uses a strengths-based perspective and a collaborative manner.

Fran Berger

Fran Berger, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland. Fran works with couples and individuals, specializing in relationship issues, parenting concerns, separation and divorce, self esteem and loneliness. In addition, she leads groups in assertiveness, building self esteem, and separation and divorce adjustment.

Sandra F. Epstein 

Sandra F. Epstein, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Simmons College. Sandy draws on more than 25 years of experience in pediatric specialty programs at Children’s National Medical Center. She specializes in treatment of children from pre-school age to young adolescence, and their families. Her work includes helping those coping with the effects of chronic disease, complex medical illness and childhood disabilities, parent-child relationships, developmental and behavioral issues, learning difficulties, transitional stresses, and separation and loss.

Sara Feldman 

Sara Feldman, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Emory University.  Sara works with individuals with mental health struggles or going through life transitions. She has experience helping her clients with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychotic disorders. Sara also is interested in executive coaching to work with teens with ADHD to stay organized and manage symptoms.  

Lisa Resnick

Lisa Resnick, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Catholic University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Ithaca College. She has been working in the field for 20 years. Lisa has worked with young children who have been abused or neglected in addition to teenagers and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, mood disorders and PTSD. Modalities used include strengths-based perspective, self psychology, CBT, psychodynamic and mindfulness. Lisa helps her clients as they encounter challenges that strain their ability to cope. Her easy-going nature helps her develop empathy with her clients.  

 

Stephanie Johnston

Stephanie Johnston, MSW, LGSW is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Catholic University. Stephanie is currently training in psychodynamic psychotherapy through the Clinical Program at the Washington School of Psychiatry and has training in integrated wellness coaching and MBSR mindfulness techniques.  She provides therapy to individuals with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief and trauma.  

Elinor Metz

Elinor Metz, MA, LCPC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Catholic University. Her areas of specialization are adults and adolescents in individual, group and couples counseling. These areas include communication, conflict resolution, mediation, crisis intervention, anger management, life transitions, grief counseling, pain management, habit control, stress management, anxiety disorders, career planning, and alcohol and substance abuse screening. In addition, Elinor has had specialized training in brief solution focused therapy, hypnotherapy, couples counseling, crisis intervention/trauma, grief counseling, alcohol and substance abuse screening and negotiation and conflict resolution.

Miki Navon-Stering

Miki Navon-Stering, MSW-LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Haifa University in Israel. She is currently training in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Miki is fluent in both English and Hebrew, and has experience working with people of all ages and from a diversity of cultural backgrounds. Her main areas of specialization are depression, anxiety, domestic violence, grief, post-trauma, disabilities (both acquired and congenital) and relationship issues.

Ellen Ottenstein

Ellen Ottenstein, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland and a Master of Education in Counseling from Springfield College. As a psychotherapist and Life Coach, Ellen works with adults, couples and families on a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma and major life changes. In feeling safe to fully express yourself in the warm environment of Ellen's office, clients make continuous progress toward reaching their goals. Ellen partners with her clients to help them discover parts of themselves that hold them back from living fully and. Through this process clients gain the tools to live a more loving and peaceful life.

Ellery Allen Owens 

Ellery Allen Owens, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Tulane University. Ellery spent much of her professional life abroad and has a special interest in cross-cultural adjustment. Other areas of specialization are depression, anxiety, domestic violence, loss and grief. She works with children, adolescents and adults, and couples. Ellery has studied widely throughout the United States as well as abroad.

Beth Smith 

Beth Smith, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland. Beth has experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and adults. Her areas of specialization include anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, alcohol and drug dependence, career transitions, academic and behavioral issues, and relationship/intimacy struggles. Beth is also a certified fitness instructor who understands the role that good physical health plays in emotional well-being. Beth uses and teaches mindfulness and meditation techniques. She is committed to providing a compassionate, collaborative, and emotionally safe environment for her clients. 

Jody Tabner Thayer

Jody Tabner Thayer, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Catholic University, and a Juris Doctorate Degree. Jody has also completed both the Clinical Program on Psychotherapy Practice and the Supervision Program at the Washington School of Psychiatry. She works with adolescent and adult individuals concerning anxiety, depression, phobias, trauma, anger, ADHD, and self image, and with couples and families struggling in their relationships. Jody also serves as our Executive Director.

Catherine Tardif-Douglin

Catherine Tardif-Douglin, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Catholic University. She began her career as a research sociologist in Africa, and became a therapist to work more closely with individuals. She has many years of experience working with individuals and groups in the psychiatry department of a hospital setting. She works with adolescents and adults who are depressed, anxious, or feeling overwhelmed by life transitions. She also provides therapeutic support to families coping with the mental health symptoms of a loved one.

Betty J. Zara

Betty J. Zara, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland. Betty draws on 30 years of experience working with children, young adolescents in transition, adults, and families. She has extensive experience with depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD. Betty helps clients move toward self-advocacy and empowerment, using strategies from mindfulness, child-centered play therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy and EMDR. She is proficient in Spanish, with an interest in multi-cultural awareness.

Sharon Fisher

Sharon Fisher, MSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Catholic University and a BA in Psychology from George Washington University. With more than 20 years’ experience, Sharon works with teens and adults in individual, couples and family therapy on a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, life transitions and trauma. Sharon works from a cognitive behavioral perspective but, recognizing the uniqueness of each client, incorporates other approaches as needed. Sharon utilizes a collaborative approach, working with clients to help them achieve their goals.

Erin Graham

Erin Graham, LCPAT, ATR-BC is a Licensed Professional Art Therapist with a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from George Washington University. Erin is passionate about providing expressive art therapy and counseling services to diverse populations, collaborating with other health professionals, and training art therapy students. She has experience working with adults and adolescents in acute psychiatric and therapeutic residential settings, and specializes in depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma. Erin’s individual and group sessions utilize the creative process to enhance well-being, improve relationships, and reduce stress.

Emily West

Emily West, MSW, LGSW is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Catholic University. She is currently training in psychodynamic psychotherapy in the Clinical Program at the Washington School of Psychiatry. Emily practices from a psychodynamic, trauma- informed approach that incorporates the mind-body connection. She works with adolescents and adults, focusing on trauma, relationship and interpersonal issues, self-acceptance, and adjustment. Emily works with clients to identify and overcome barriers to well-being and contentment.
