Suzan M. Sigmond
LCSW-CI graduated from the University of Maryland with a major in Psychology. I then worked for an adoption agency for 5 years and this experience motivated me to go back and get a Master’s. I completed my Master’s in Social Work from Catholic University. Then for the next 20 years I worked for a Community Mental Health Center where we saw anyone who walked through the door. This gave me a big variety of experiences with a diverse population. Next; I went to the Family Therapy Institute for 2 years where I earned a certificate in family therapy. I continue to love to work with families, couples and individuals. For the past 25 years I have been working for a Non-Profit therapy practice.
My approach blends the elements of psycho dynamics, cognitive/behavioral and systems techniques. My best population to work with are people ages 15 and up. I feel therapy is a collaborative process and should incorporate: learning emotional regulation and identifying external stressors that can be modified. A healthy change starts with identifying self-defeating patterns and identifying resources to reach healthy goals.
