Kate Clausen

I believe that clients of all ages and backgrounds have the capacity for positive growth and change.  I have an integrative approach to psychotherapy which focuses on the client’s relationships with both self and others as the key to well-being.

This approach blends elements of relational psychodynamics, cognitive behavioral therapy, and humanistic schools of thought.  I believe therapy is most effective when the client’s unique talents are interests are explored and acknowledged alongside their difficulties.

I have received specialized training in the treatment of children and adolescents, but enjoy working with clients of all ages.  I find my experience in human development and family dynamics enriches my understanding of all my clients, including adults.

I especially enjoy working with those who have AD/HD, working with trauma survivors, and doing family therapy.

I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2003 with an MSW, and then spent a year at the Yale Child Study Center to complete a fellowship in child and adolescent psychotherapy.   Upon completion in 2004, I move to New York City and worked for 10 years providing community mental health services to clients of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds.  I also ran a small private practice in Brooklyn.  In 2014, I moved back to Maryland and spent 5 years working at the Jewish Social Service Agency in their Mental Health Services division, providing individual and family therapy, as well as running social skills groups for girls and serving as a early childhood mental health consultant for local preschools.   I began working at Willow Oak Therapy Center in 2018 and I am proud to serve as Executive Director to this wonderful group of clinicians.
