Beth Smith
MSW, LCSW-CBeth Smith is a clinical social worker who practices both traditional talk therapy and “Walk-and-Talk” therapy. Walk-and-Talk is a wellness model that combines talking with physical movement in the outdoors. Walking is done at a pace that is comfortable for each individual (from a leisurely stroll to a power walk). Many clients have found that a 55 minute session results in an extra several thousand steps for the day. Her clients range in age from 12-80 and come in all shapes and sizes. Her experience has been that almost anyone can do it and everyone can benefit! Sessions take place in the neighborhood near Willow Oak Therapy Center or at local parks and lakes (such as Lake Needwood or Lake Frank). It is also done in all sorts of weather, but an indoor office is always available should that be your preference. Beth earned her masters degree in social work from the University of Maryland and has been practicing since 1997. She is a certified group fitness instructor who understands the role that good physical health plays in emotional well-being and clarity of mind. Beth’s clients have reported that walking and talking in nature helped them open up more quickly, increased their energy, sharpened their focus and concentration, and promoted serenity. She works with people who are dealing with mood disorders, substance dependence, relationship struggles, and life transitions. By using and teaching mindfulness practices and other techniques, Beth provides her clients with practical tools to deal with everyday life stress. She is committed to cultivating a compassionate, collaborative and creative setting that builds on her clients’ strengths and helps them take positive strides (pun intended!) toward permanent changes in their lives.
